“We have to stay focused”

After the last in a month of difficult matches, the Eagles were disappointed and critical of themselves, but equally stressed that they have “everything in their own hands”.

Board member Fredi Bobic: “We’re obviously disappointed that we lost. There were periods in the game when we looked good, but we have to admit that too often we allowed Leverkusen too much space to play. We’re now one point ahead of Dortmund. We have three matches ahead of us, all of which we’d like to win. If we win all three, then we’ll still be at least one point in front. We now need to approach all three matches as if each one is a final.”

Nonetheless, we still deserve to be in fourth place. We have to stay focused until the end, and then we’ll achieve our big objective.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “If you take the 90 minutes as a whole, the defeat is deserved because Leverkusen had the better chances, especially in the first half. We mustn’t forget that we were playing against a top team who have designs on qualifying for the Champions League. We’re still six points ahead of them. If someone had said to us before the start of the season that we’d finish in the top six, everyone would’ve bitten their hand off. We’re in Europe and we’ll try to achieve something very, very big that Frankfurt have never achieved before. To do that we need a certain calmness, and that’s my job.”

André Silva: “We didn’t do well for the first goal. It wasn’t a normal goal, but it happens. We kept trying to get the three points and play in an attacking way. After getting a goal back, we had hope and confidence again but then quickly conceded the final goal. It’s a bad feeling. Nonetheless, we still deserve to be in fourth place. We have to stay focused until the end, and then we’ll achieve our big objective.”
