Eintracht

Three goals, three debuts

Paxten Aaronson, Jessic Ngankam and Jens Petter Hauge got the goals, while Lucas Alario made his comeback from injury as Eintracht beat Wehen Wiesbaden 3-1 in Thursday’s friendly.

Nine changes

Head coach Dino Toppmöller made the most of the opportunity to rotate his squad, making nine alterations to the team that started Sunday’s draw with 1. FC Köln. Aurélio Buta and Philipp Max kept their places in the side, with Timothy Chandler, Makoto Hasebe, captain Sebastian Rode and summer signing Ngankam all handed starts. Kristijan Jakic was also involved after recovering from concussion.

Aaronson impresses

The Eagles dominated possession in the first half but it was the visitors who carried the greater threat in the final third, taking the lead with the first real opportunity of the contest. Eintracht gave the ball away in midfield and Wehen took full advantage, Antonio Jonjic beating Jens Grahl with a powerful finish.

Toppmöller’s team improved as the half wore on and almost restored parity through Hauge, whose curling shot from the edge of the area flew narrowly past the far post. Rode also went close with a fine effort from a similar position, before the lively Aaronson found the net from Ngankam’s pass.

Ngankam puts Eintracht ahead

Wehen continued to cause the Eagles problems in the second period, but Amar Catic hit the side-netting from a tight angle and half-time substitute Kauã Santos – a recent signing from Flamengo – was equal to John Iredale’s strike. Noel Futkeu and Davis Bautista were also handed their first-team debuts just after the hour mark, replacing Rode and Jakic respectively.

Marcus Mathisen’s foul on Ngankam inside the area gave the former Hoffenheim man the opportunity to complete the turnaround and the 23-year-old duly obliged, powering his spot-kick past Mohamed Amsif. Hauge also got his name on the scoresheet late on, firing home after Lucas Alario – who was making his first appearance since April – had been denied by Amsif.
