Eintracht

Dino Toppmöller has been appointed new head coach.

The 42-year-old ex-pro and former Eintracht player has been given a contract that ties him to the club until 2026.

Eintracht Frankfurt will by coached by Dino Toppmöller from next season onwards. Toppmöller was previously part of Julian Nagelsmann’s coaching staff at Bayern Munich and prior to that at RB Leipzig.

The 42-year-old also has head coaching experience to his name, having made history with Luxembourgian club F91 Dudelange by winning the league and securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League, making them the first side from the Grand Duchy to qualify for the group stage of a UEFA competition.

Born in Wardern in Saarland, Toppmöller won three Luxembourg National Division titles with Dudelange and another four trophies – two each in the domestic cup and league cup. With Belgian top-flight side Royal Excelsior Virton, he then had an excellent first half of the season in 2019/20 before leaving the club and later joining Leipzig.

16 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt

In the early 2000s, Dino – son of Klaus Toppmöller who was Eintracht coach during the 1993/94 season – made a total of 16 appearances in Bundesliga 2 for the Eagles. In the 2002/03 season, he scored three goals and assisted another one in his role as an attacking midfielder, and fans have certainly not forgotten his double in a 2-0 win away to Rot-Weiss Oberhausen on Matchday 33 as the season was drawing to a close. That victory laid the foundation for promotion in the final game of the season against Reutlingen. Overall, Toppmöller played 128 matches in Bundesliga 2.

With his expertise, his deep understanding of football and his great interpersonal skills, we are delighted that we are the ones to have signed him.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche

“It was just a question of time before Dino Toppmöller found a job as a head coach in the Bundesliga, and with his expertise, his deep understanding of football and his great interpersonal skills, we are delighted that we are the ones to have signed him,” said Eintracht board member for sport Markus Krösche. “In recent years, he has acquired some very valuable experience in a variety of different roles and enjoyed a great deal of success. Dino learned to make a little go a long way with Dudelange and as head coach, he was the man in charge of a bunch of young players with plenty of potential and who took them to the next level. I have been following Dino’s career for a long time now and in Leipzig, I could see how he goes about his work, as well as the acute tactical awareness and analytical skills that he has. It was no surprise that Julian Nagelsmann took him with him to FC Bayern Munich, and he certainly added to his reputation while he was there. The way he wants football to be played matches our philosophy, and as a former Eintracht player who also speaks fluent English and French, Dino will have no problems finding his feet quickly here in Frankfurt.“

I like the path that the club has gone down – we share the same ideas about football.

Dino Toppmöller

“Eintracht Frankfurt’s development in recent years has been really impressive,” said Toppmöller. “Playing here earlier in my career means that I have always had a special relationship with Eintracht and I’ve kept a keen eye on their progress. As such, I’m even more delighted to be part of the club now, and my coaching staff and I are really looking forward to helping the club and everyone involved to keep progressing in the right direction. The discussions that we had with Markus Krösche and Timmo Hardung were always absolutely full of respect and constructive. I like the path that the club has gone down – we share the same ideas about football. As a player, I was part of the team that won 6-3 against Reutlingen in 2003 in the old Waldstadion and celebrated promotion. Returning as head coach now to this club here at the heart of Europe, which generates such incredible emotion and has truly unique fans, is both an honour and a challenge for me. I’m sure that we’ll enjoy more great moments on the pitch together.”

New assistants also appointed

Toppmöller will be bringing two assistant coaches with him, who will be joining the club on 1 July 2023. Nélson Morgado will be moving from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, having already worked with Toppmöller in Luxembourg. A Portuguese national, his main role in the coaching team will be as an analyst.

Darmstadt-born Erwin Bradasch was most recently part of the coaching staff at Luxembourgian side CS Grevenmacher. Prior to that, he had been one of Toppmöller’s assistants at Virton and Dudelange. During his playing career, Bradasch turned out for FC Augsburg, KFC Uerdingen and Eintracht Trier.

Goalkeeping coach Jan Zimmermann, who took on the role and made it his own after hanging up his boots at the end of the 2019/20 season, will remain part of the staff, as will the current analysis team of Marco Schuster, Marco Russ, Niklas Lanwehr and Sebastian Saglimbeni .

Back in training on 10 July

The first-team squad will kick off training for the new season on 10 July 2023 with compulsory performance tests, followed by the first training session.
