“Get a result against Bremen”

Eintracht Frankfurt host Werder Bremen at Deutsche Bank Park on Matchday 6 of the Bundesliga.

“We need to get the game in Munich out of our system quickly, build on our good performances and get a result against Werder Bremen,” declared Eintracht striker Bas Dost, looking ahead to the upcoming encounter at Deutsche Bank Park. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last four home games in the league, and another win over Bremen would further underpin that positive trend.

Back on steady ground

After surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth in the play-off last season, Bremen have started the new campaign just as well as Eintracht with eight points from five matches. They lie in seventh place, with the Eagles just behind them in eighth due to their worse goal difference. The winner of this match will therefore stay in the mix for the European positions.

Lots of games, lots of goals

Frankfurt’s attack is certainly in good form going into this game: Dost and André Silva have been directly involved in 13 of the team’s last 17 Bundesliga goals. Silva has also found the net in all three of his encounters with Werder – two in the league along with the DFB Cup quarter-final in March of this year. Stefan Ilsanker has good memories of Bremen, too, having scored twice in Eintracht’s 3-0 victory at the Weserstadion in June.

In 100 league meetings, some intriguing facts have inevitably emerged. Werder suffered one of the heaviest defeats in the club’s history in the 1963/64 season, losing 7-0 in Frankfurt. What’s more, the Eagles have only scored more goals against Stuttgart (160) than they have against the Green-Whites (148). The last six Bundesliga clashes between the two sides in Frankfurt have produced an average of four goals per game. They just need to go the right way on Saturday.
