DFL names Hasebe as Bundesliga Legend

Makoto Hasebe is now officially a member of the Bundesliga Legends Network, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Cha Bum-kun, Jay-Jay Okocha and Chen Yang.

Not that it needed any kind of documentation to prove it, but Makoto Hasebe now officially enjoys legend status, with the DFL (German Football League) making the Eagles player part of its Bundesliga Legends Network a few days ago.

The members of this elite circle around the globe are ambassadors for the values and unique characteristics of the Bundesliga, sharing their experiences of German professional football.

What’s particularly notable is the fact that the Frankfurt defensive stalwart is the only Legend who is still playing. His nomination should come as no surprise, however. With 342 Bundesliga appearances to his name, the former Japan captain has played the most matches of any Asian player both in the German top flight and indeed in any European league.

47-year-old Chen Yang has also been called up to the ranks of DFL Legends. The first ever Chinese player in Bundesliga history made a total of 99 appearances for the Eagles and was named China’s footballer of the year during his time in Frankfurt.

Jay-Jay Okocha and Cha Bum-kun are another two former Eagles to have gained membership to the Bundesliga Legends Network.
