DFB Cup semi-finals: Eintracht drawn away to Schalke

Eintracht Frankfurt were handed an away tie at FC Schalke 04 in Sunday evening’s draw for the DFB Cup semi-finals.

Next stop Gelsenkirchen! Eintracht will travel to Schalke to battle it out for a place in the final of the DFB Cup. The draw for the semi-finals happened on Sunday evening at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, with Germany goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke picking out the names. The match will be played at the VELTINS-Arena on either Tuesday 17 or Wednesday 18 April. “Obviously we would’ve preferred a home tie but we also had a tough away match last year and we won that,” commented head coach Niko Kovac after the draw. “Schalke are a top side, but we’re in good form away from home so it’s a good thing. We want to reach the final.”

The Eagles reached the semi-finals after beating 1. FSV Mainz 05 3-0 at home during the week, while Schalke were 1-0 winners over VfL Wolfsburg. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in Frankfurt in the Bundesliga in December. Board member Fredi Bobic also offered his reaction: “It doesn’t matter who or where. Our goal remains the same: Berlin.”
