“Had the game firmly in our grip”

Dino Toppmöller, Omar Marmoush and Kevin Trapp see signs of progress in Eintracht’s play but bemoan the goals conceded. The reaction to the 2-1 defeat against PAOK.

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We put in a very good away performance and it’s a very undeserved defeat. It felt like we had the game firmly in our grip for 90 minutes and hardly gave them any chances. There was a lot more activity in attack than in recent games and we finished with 18 attempts on goal. We got a lot of players into dangerous areas but we need to capitalise on that more, and then we’ll win. It’s extremely hard to swallow, losing 2-1 in stoppage time to such a scrappy goal. We accept the defeat, accept the challenge and go again on Sunday.”

Kevin Trapp: “We put in a super performance, we got forward quickly, created a huge number of chances and had shots on goal. We didn’t let the atmosphere unsettle us. We were closer to the winning goal than PAOK. We know the defeat is undeserved, but ultimately that doesn’t make it any better – we would’ve deserved the win. We can take heart from our performance, which we want to build on this Sunday. We’re playing at home and want to win the game.”

Omar Marmoush: “We were clearly the better team and would’ve deserved the win. That’s the way it is in football sometimes. The good thing is we have a return match against PAOK at home in the group. Obviously I’m pleased about the goal. In general we were on top in the game and had the control. I can’t remember the opponents having many chances. That’s the way it goes sometimes. We’ll keep working.”
