“It could be an amazing season”

Bas Dost discusses the competition for places up front, his fitness and his aims for the season.

Bas Dost on…

...pre-season: “I think the fact that I’m doing pre-season preparations for the Bundesliga in Germany can help me a lot. Last year my pre-season work was in Portugal and I noticed it wasn’t enough for me. It affected the whole season and that’s why I’m very happy to be here from the start now. The training sessions are tough, but it’s a great feeling to be pain free and to be able to participate in every session. If I continue like this it could be an amazing season.”

…competition for places in attack: “There’ll always be competition. We already had two great strikers in André Silva and Goncalo Paciencia, and Ragnar Ache has made a really good impression too. It’s impressive how much he wants to learn and how he’s gone about things these first few weeks. Ragnar’s very strong and very quick. I hope he keeps going like this. Anyone who plays for Eintracht has to accept and deal with the fact that there will be competition for places.” It’s obviously nice if someone appreciates me, but at the same time I’m someone who believes in themselves and draws motivation from that.

…his aims: “I’d like to continue in the same way I began pre-season. It’s not just about scoring goals, although obviously I’d like to score more often. As a team we’d like to do better this coming season.”

...motivation: “It’s always important for the coach to have faith in you, but at the end of the day it’s down to everyone as an individual. It’s obviously nice if someone appreciates me, but at the same time I’m someone who believes in themselves and draws motivation from that.”

...the friendly against Ajax: “Ajax were in the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019. There’s been a bit of upheaval there as a few players have moved on, but they’re still a great team. We’re going there to show what we can do.”
