Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Paraguay means Colombia drop to sixth place in the South American qualifying table with three games remaining, three points behind Peru – now in fourth place – and two behind the Celeste.

Australia – who were without suspended Frankfurt midfielder Ajdin Hrustic – remain hot on the heels of Japan after beating Vietnam 4-0 in Asian qualifying. Japan overcame China 2-0 to stay one point above the Socceroos, who could replace the Blue Samurai in second place on Tuesday if they beat Oman and Japan drop points against group leaders Saudi Arabia.

Aymen Barkok, meanwhile, will be in Africa Cup of Nations action on Sunday when Morocco face none other than record title holders Egypt in the quarter-finals.
