Complaint lodged against Marseille exclusion order

Eintracht Frankfurt is filing an official complaint against the exclusion order that barred the club’s supporters from the city of Marseille for last week’s UEFA Europa League match.

After the club’s objection to the exclusion order was dismissed in summary proceedings, Eintracht Frankfurt has now lodged a complaint to the relevant authorities. The order was issued by the Marseille authorities four days before the UEFA Europa League group match between Eintracht and Olympique Marseille on 20 September.

"Even though the match has been played, it’s a matter of principle for us to clarify whether such banning orders for something as ordinary as football fans visiting other cities can be allowed within the European jurisdiction,” explained board member Axel Hellmann. “We have a clear position on it and we’ll persevere." From experience, these lawsuits take at least two years before a verdict is reached.

Eintracht Frankfurt is being supported by the French supporters umbrella association ANS as well as Football Supporters Europe (FSE).
