Christopher Lenz leaves Eintracht Frankfurt

The 28-year-old defender is joining Leipzig, despite having a contract set to keep him at Eintracht until the end of the current season.

Lenz joined the club in July 2021, having made 72 appearances for 1. FC Union Berlin. In his first season with the Eagles, he promptly established himself as a regular on the left side of defence, although injuries then saw him miss extended periods. The former German youth international regained his fitness towards the end of the season and came on as a substitute during extra time of the 2022 Europa League final against Rangers. He was then the first SGE player to step up in the penalty shootout, scoring from the spot and playing a vital role in the club’s historic win.

In 2022/23, the 28-year-old largely managed to steer clear of further injury and played 34 matches. In his only appearance this season, he came as a substitute towards the end of the match away to Mainz on Sunday.

“Christopher was an exemplary team player in both of his seasons with Eintracht and always did everything he could for the club,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “During the final in Seville, he took on the responsibility of being the first Eintracht player to take a penalty, and this was another occasion where Christopher showed great character. We would like to thank him for his commitment and wish him nothing but the best for the future.”
