Timothy Chandler commits until 2025

Eintracht’s longest-serving first-team player, Timothy Chandler, has signed a three-year contract extension with the Eagles, taking his deal to 2025.

The Frankfurt-born defender’s contract had been due to expire in 2022. His new deal also includes a clause allowing him to stay with the Eagles in an as yet undetermined role after hanging up his boots.

Chandler could be described as ‘Mr Eintracht Frankfurt’, having spent the majority of his footballing career with the Eagles. He joined Eintracht’s youth department as an 11-year-old in 2001 and, aside from a four-year spell with 1. FC Nürnberg between 2010 and 2014, has remained a key part of the club.

Timmy’s value to the team and the whole environment goes far beyond the sporting side of things.

Since his return, the 31-year-old has made a valuable contribution to Eintracht’s steady rise, appearing in the Eagles’ relegation play-off victory in 2016 and the DFB Cup win in 2018, as well as the current campaign – Eintracht’s most successful in their Bundesliga history. The former USA international has made 154 competitive appearances for the club – a tally bettered only by three other players in the Eagles’ current squad.

“Timmy’s value to the team and the whole environment goes far beyond the sporting side of things,” said board member Fredi Bobic. “He’s held in high esteem everywhere because of his achievements, and his words carry weight. That’s why we’re delighted that Timmy, a leader and absolute role model, has committed himself to Eintracht long-term. The length of the deal, as well as the option of a subsequent contract are fully in line with Eintracht Frankfurt’s strategy of retaining players who deserve it once their playing days are over.
