Excellent record against Werder
Eintracht have racked up a total of 35 wins against SV Werder Bremen in their history, with the most recent one coming in the reverse fixture this season. The game looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw after Niklas Moisander had cancelled out Ante Rebic’s opener, but a fine late volley from Sébastien Haller sent the home fans wild.
Moreover, SGE have lost just two of their last 15 meetings with Bremen – both were 1-0 defeats at the Weser-Stadion in May 2015 and May 2016. The Hanseatic city has been a happy hunting ground for Eintracht, who have won there more times (12) than anywhere else. SVW have managed just two wins in their last seven home games against the Eagles, losing two and drawing four.
Bremen in form
That said, Bremen are in good form at the moment. The hosts are undefeated in four league games – their longest unbeaten run of the season – and have collected ten points from a possible 12. Only Schalke have done better during the same period. This impressive run has moved Werder eight points clear of Mainz in the relegation play-off place.
The Green-Whites are also unbeaten in their nine Bundesliga games at home since Florian Kohfeldt took over as coach at the end of October, winning the last three. Only Bayern Munich have gone longer without defeat in front of their own fans. The Eagles will have to pay particularly close attention to Max Kruse: the striker has been involved in half of Bremen’s 30 goals this season, scoring six himself and setting up nine.
Supersub Luka Jovic
Eintracht also have a few attacking aces in their pack, though. Luka Jovic has caught the eye recently and netted his sixth goal of the season in the 3-0 win at home to Mainz 05 two weeks ago. The Serbia Under-21 international has scored four times after coming off the bench – more than any other player in the Bundesliga.
Kevin-Prince Boateng was also on target against Mainz. The midfielder has now scored six goals in a season for only the second time in his career, having posted the same tally for Schalke in the 2013/14 campaign.
