Big crowd for first training session of the week

Hundreds of fans watched on as the Eagles began preparations for the upcoming game at SV Werder Bremen.

The walk from the training pitch back to the dressing rooms can take a little bit longer at Frankfurt these days – an autograph here, a selfie or two there. Several hundred loyal fans attended the open session on Tuesday afternoon at the Commerzbank Arena training ground, taking advantage of the Easter holidays in Hessen to get up close and personal with the Eintracht stars. They watched on as the Eagles started their preparations for Sunday’s game at Werder Bremen with a session lasting around an hour and a half.

Falette, Abraham and Boateng back

Head coach Niko Kovac was without ten players who are still away on international duty. Taleb Tawatha, who played 90 minutes in Israel’s 2-1 defeat to Romania on Saturday, is the only international to have returned so far. David Abraham and Kevin-Prince Boateng, who were rested in last week’s friendly at Haibach, took full part, as did Simon Falette, who limped off against Haibach. In total, Kovac had 18 outfield players and four goalkeepers at his disposal, allowing him to carry out an intensive session. “When you’ve had a few days off, you always need a little while to get back into it,” explained Marco Russ after training. “Therefore today’s session was very strenuous, but at the same time it’s good to gradually get your body used to that workload again. Now we have an important run-in ahead of us that we need to fully focus on and prepare for.”
