“We’re capable of a top performance”

Oliver Glasner and Randal Kolo Muani discuss the need for points, their respect for Marseille and why the atmosphere will be a motivation.

At the press conference ahead of Eintracht’s next UEFA Champions League outing, head coach Oliver Glasner and Randal Kolo Muani gave their thoughts on…

...their expectations

Oliver Glasner: “A great stadium, a very good opponent – we’re looking forward to our second Champions League game. We didn’t get off to the start we wanted so now we want to do better and pick up our first points. It’s not only three points that we can win; we can also gain self-confidence to continue growing together. We’re capable of putting in a top performance.”

Randal Kolo Muani: “We’ve got a few new players. We have to come together, which we’re doing better and better. We’re still lacking that killer instinct in front of goal though.”

...the opposition

Oliver Glasner: “Olympique de Marseille are in really good form and are in second place in the French league. Against Tottenham they were on an even footing at the very least until they went down to 10 men. They’ve got a clear 3-4-3 structure and have a lot of variation when they’re in possession. They’ve got a lot of pace on the wings and they man mark in defence. We’ve prepared ourselves for an intensive game and want to enjoy a football festival in a great stadium in a match between two European clubs steeped in tradition. We hope there’ll be a great atmosphere, but obviously a peaceful one.”

...the atmosphere inside the Vélodrome

Oliver Glasner: “We have a better record on the road than we do at home. The players have shown that they’re not fazed by the atmosphere away from home. The atmosphere will spur us on and won’t affect us negatively.”

Sebastian Rode is back earlier than expected. We’ll have a talk about how long he feels he can play for.

Head Coach Oliver Glasner

Randal Kolo Muani: “I’ve played here several times before. It’ll be in intensive game. We’re looking forward to it and will be fully focused. The fact that I know the surrounding area doesn’t give me any extra motivation - I’m already motivated enough. I’ll be going into this match with the same commitment and focus as I do with every other match.”

...Sebastian Rode’s return

Oliver Glasner: “Sebastian Rode is back earlier than expected. We’ll have another chat tomorrow. He didn’t do anything the whole week leading up to the final training session. We’ll have a talk about how long he feels he can play for.”
