Bastian Oczipka bids farewell

Defender Bastian Oczipka joins Schalke 04 with immediate effect.

After passing the medical check at Schalke 04 on Saturday, the clubs agreed on Bastian Oczipka's immediate transfer. S04 and Eintracht declared to maintain silence on the conditions. It was the player's will to make the move after five years at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Oczipka joined SGE in 2012 from Bayer 04 Leverkusen; he recorded 167 competitive matches for the Eagles and experienced quite a few ups and downs during his time at at Eintracht. He helped SGE to reach the Europa League in 2012 and also to avoid relegation in 2016; Oczipka was one of the most regular starters in recent years.

A pro through and through

Board member Fredi Bobic: "The player approached us expressing his wish to pursue the transfer. It is of course not easy to let him go; we acknowledge his merits for Eintracht.

Sporting Director Bruno Hübner: "Of course we would have rather continued to work with Bastian; he is a pro through and through on and off the pitch and became a key player in his time at SGE. A big 'thank you' to him and all the best for his future."

Coach Niko Kovac: "We will miss Basti, as a player as well as a character. All the best to him!"
