Spotlight on Bahoya

After the U19 European Championship in Northern Ireland, the 19-year-old attacker is back at Eintracht – and has completed his performance tests.

Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is back in the heart of Europe and has already been working up a sweat this week: the young Frenchman underwent the obligatory pre-season performance tests at the ProfiCamp at Deutsche Bank Park on Monday.

The 19-year-old was not with his Eintracht team-mates during the first two weeks of training, nor at the subsequent Frankfurt Americas Tour 2024 – but for good reason.

Bahoya was at the U19 European Championship with France in Northern Ireland, where Les Bleus were beaten by Spain in the final. “Even though we unfortunately lost the final and were obviously disappointed, the tournament was a great experience for me,” said the attacker, who played in all five matches.

I want to perform and deliver, and I’m looking forward to the new season.

Bahoya, who made eight Bundesliga appearances in the 2023/24 season, arrived at the ProfiCamp complex in a high spirits, his motivation and sense of anticipation immediately tangible. “I’ve missed the lads a lot,” he said. “I’ve been in contact with some of them like Niels [Nkounkou] and Hugo [Ekitiké] from time to time. I’m really looking forward to being back in Frankfurt. I want to perform and deliver, and I’m looking forward to the new season.”

Accompanied by Dr. Thomas Blobel, data analysis, medical performance diagnostics, and physiotherapist Lucas Trittel, the Frenchman completed various exercises. Measurements were taken, notes were made and a wide variety of data was collected.

Olympic Games on the doorstep

When time allows, Bahoya is keeping up with the summer Olympic Games in Paris on TV – he grew up in Montfermeil on the outskirts of the French capital.

“It makes me proud that the Olympic Games are being held at home in France,” said Bahoya, who has been back in the heart of Europe since the start of the week. “I’m discovering sporting disciplines that I wasn’t aware of before. It’s fun, and when I find the time I like to watch them on TV.”
