Exclusive interview with Aymen Barkok

The midfielder reflects on Tuesday’s match against Gladbach and looks ahead to the next assignment at Augsburg.

Aymen, what’s the overriding feeling following the 3-3 draw against Mönchengladbach: delight about the performance or dismay about the two dropped points?
“Obviously we’re all disappointed that we didn’t hold onto the three points. We played brilliantly and certainly deserved to win. But all we can do now is look forward and do better again against Augsburg. I fully believe that if we play like we did against Gladbach – except the last 10 minutes plus stoppage time – then we’re capable of producing another performance like that and getting the win.”

You appear to be enjoying yourself on the pitch, or is that a false impression? Your goal was certainly a treat to watch…
“Yes, I’ve already watched it again a few times, but after the game I was also a bit peeved because of giving away the penalty. It was certainly a nice goal. Overall it was a great feeling to be back on the pitch for 90 minutes.”

If we perform like that, then I’m convinced we’ll bring the three points home.

How’s the interplay with André Silva going?
“We often train together (grins), so we’ve got to know each other better. It’s working very well.”

What’s your aim for the final match of the year at Augsburg?
“First and foremost, we want to play our game, hopefully the same way we did against Gladbach. If we perform like that, then I’m convinced we’ll bring the three points home.”
