“Pushed the players to their limits”

Head coach Oliver Glasner summarises the winter training camp, praises the work ethic, discusses Tuta’s injury and looks ahead to the coming week.

Oliver, what feelings are you going back to Frankfurt with?
“The lads pulled together well. We trained incredibly hard and packed a lot into a relatively short space of time, so I’m very pleased. Even on the final day we had all the players on the pitch except Tuta. I’m pleased with how it’s gone.”

How are you dealing with the injury to Tuta?
“Every injury hurts because I’d obviously like to have all the lads available. Sadly it’s part of the game, though. We’ve shown in the past that we can cope with uncertainties and we’ll find the best possible situation. I have full confidence in every player.”

I’ve got great respect for how everyone got stuck in, even when the legs are heavy and the mind is tired.

What’s impressed you most?
“Above all, how everyone’s pulled together. We pushed the players to their limits physically and mentally. I’ve got great respect for how everyone got stuck in, even when the legs are heavy and the mind is tired. Despite the nice weather here, it’s good that we’re going home and have a two-day break. As of Tuesday we'll start our detailed preparation for Schalke.”

What will next week be about?
“Getting the head and legs fresh as well as working on tactics. One of the lessons we learned from the friendlies is that in one or two situations, we almost attacked too eagerly and forgot our defensive cover. It will be important to show discipline and balance, while maintaining our enjoyment of football, passion and enthusiasm.”
