Matchday in focus: Two in-form teams

Seventh against sixth, both with 24 points on the board. The key info and facts on Eintracht’s final game of the year against Mainz 05.

Tactics

Mainz coach Bo Svensson’s preferred system is 3-1-4-2, but he has also set his team up in a 3-4-1-2 formation this season.

Absentees

Eintracht boss Oliver Glasner will definitely be without injured trio Jens Petter Hauge, Chris Lenz and Aymen Barkok. Kristijan Jakic could also miss the game through injury, while Tuta is suspended after being sent off for two bookable offences against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Jeremiah St. Juste, Anderson Lucoqui, Dominik Kohr and Adam Szalai are missing for Mainz, while Karim Onisiwo is a doubt.

One to watch: Jonathan Burkardt

Mainz 05 striker Jonathan Burkardt.

Jonathan Burkardt is Mainz’s rising star. The 21-year-old forward has been with the 05ers since the age of seven, representing all the youth teams. Having gradually established himself in the first team last season, Burkardt helped Germany win the European U21 Championship in the summer and has carried the momentum from that tournament into the current Bundesliga campaign, scoring seven goals and setting up a further two.

Jesper Lindström scored against Leverkusen and Mönchengladbach.

Statistics

Eintracht have lost just one league game on home soil in 2021.

In 13 Bundesliga home matches against Mainz, Eintracht have conceded only 0.9 goals per game on average (12 overall).

Mainz have picked up seven points from their last three league visits to Eintracht.

Head-to-head record

The Eagles have played Mainz 38 times in all competitions, winning 13 and losing ten. There have also been 15 draws between the local rivals.
