Tactics
Werder Bremen are currently 12th in the Bundesliga standings with ten points on the board. Last season, their first back in the top flight, they finished in 13th. Head coach Ole Werner used to prefer a 3-5-2 formation, but has recently been sending his side out in a 3-1-4-2 more often than not.
“They’re a team with a flair for the spectacular,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller at his pre-match press conference. “They play an extremely high-risk game going forward and have good patterns of play in their 3-5-2 system with two great strikers, hard-working midfielders and uncompromising defenders.”
Absentees
Bremen will be without goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka, Christian Groß and Naby Keïta.
Eintracht must make do without injured quartet Robin Koch, Sebastian Rode, Mehdi Loune and Simon Simoni.
One to watch: Marvin Ducksch
Ducksch is currently Bremen’s top scorer, but his path to becoming an established Bundesliga player was a long one. After starting out in Borussia Dortmund’s youth academy, the forward subsequently had spells at FC St. Pauli, Holstein Kiel, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 before joining Bremen in 2021/22 and helping them return to the top flight. Moreover…
- ... Ducksch has recorded 139 goals and 79 assists in his 331 games as a professional so far.
- ...the 29-year-old represented Germany at every age category between U15 and U19, but has not made an appearance for the senior team.
- ...on Friday Ducksch was called up to the senior Germany squad for the first time.
