The majority of the DFB Cup second-round ties took place over 22 and 23 December, but Eintracht’s match at Leverkusen as well as the meeting between Holstein Kiel and Bayern Munich were postponed until the New Year. The draw for the last 16 therefore took place on Sunday evening with two of the balls having two names on them.
If the Eagles progress against Leverkusen on 12 January, a visit to fourth-tier side Rot-Weiss Essen awaits them in the next round. The tie will be played on 2 or 3 February.
