An Eagle from the summer

Eintracht have secured their first new signing for the 2021/22 season, with Christopher Lenz joining from Union Berlin on a three-year contract.

Eintracht Frankfurt are setting the course for the future. The Hessians have announced Christopher Lenz as their first summer signing for next season, on a contract until 30 June 2024. Left-back Lenz will move to Frankfurt on a free transfer from 1. FC Union Berlin, where he’s made 19 appearances in all competitions this season and posted three assists. In total the 26-year-old has made 44 Bundesliga appearances for the Berliners.

Lenz is looking forward to his new challenge: “I see Eintracht as the next step in my development and I’m really looking forward to my time in Frankfurt. I got to play in front of a great crowd at the Alten Försterei and if you watched Eintracht’s games in the Europa League, then you know how passionate it gets here. The atmosphere and the fans are among the best in the world.”

Christopher Lenz

Before joining Union in summer 2016, Lenz came through the youth ranks at city rivals Hertha BSC, where he played for 12 years in total. He was promoted to the Bundesliga club’s U23 side during the 2011/12 season, after which he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the second half of the 2016/17 campaign, Union sent him on loan to Holstein Kiel, then a third-division side.

Eintracht board member Fredi Bobic said: “Christopher has proven in the last year and a half that he can play at the highest level in the Bundesliga. We’re very happy that we’ve been able to acquire such a high-quality player and good character on a free transfer. It’s an excellent signing for us from both a footballing and financial perspective.”
