"A good decision to come to Alicante" – Fredi Bobic interview

Fresh from arriving at the club's training camp in Spain, Eintracht Frankfurt board member Fredi Bobic discusses his initial impressions, potential transfer activity and the Matchday 18 meeting with SC Freiburg.

Fredi, what are your first impressions of conditions here in Alicante?

Fredi Bobic: "First impressions have been very good. The weather is great, the pitches are in excellent condition and the food is also good. The boys were really comfortable after just a few hours of being here and are enjoying themselves. In that sense, we've done just the right thing [by coming here]."

For the last few years Eintracht have been in Abu Dhabi for a winter training camp. Why Alicante this year?

Fredi Bobic: "We simply didn't have the time to travel too far away. Almost every other club has decided to come to this part of the world, too. We actually even thought about just staying in Frankfurt the whole time, but in the end we made a good decision to come to Alicante. We want to use this week to prepare as well as possible for the second half of the season because we only really have five days here before the focus will be completely on the Freiburg game."

How's the squad looking? Will there be any movement in the transfer market?

Fredi Bobic: "If something develops that would make sense, then we'd try to get it over the line. Something could always happen and we'll be keeping our eyes peeled, in part with a view to the summer window, too. We don't have any urgent need to act, though. At the moment there's not much happening in the market anyway, and most [clubs] are waiting to see how the first few games go. With that in mind, it's more likely that there'll be movement towards the end of January. For us that could particularly be the case with outgoings, whether that's players going out on loan or being sold."

It's only a week and a half until the Matchday 18 meeting at home to Freiburg. What are your thoughts ahead of that one?

Fredi Bobic: "A home win would be great, of course. We love playing at home in front of our fans, who always create an unbelievable atmosphere. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. I'm looking forward to the game and I'm hoping that we get the rub of the green that's been long overdue on home turf. It'll definitely be a tight game against tricky opposition; they've been playing well in the last few weeks."
