4-0 Away Win at Home!

After nearly 50 years FSV Frankfurt and Eintracht met each other in a competitive match again, and FSV had decided to host the match in the Commerzbank Arena for capacity reasons. Eintracht won this prestigious Frankfurt derby 4-0 by goals of Rode (17'), Gekas (31' PEN) and Köhler (40', 89'). They settled matters in the first half and moved up to spot three in the 2. Bundesliga standings.

Armin Veh made two changes to the line-up compared to last Monday's 1-1 against Düsseldorf, skipper Schwegler returned to defensive midfield and Korkmaz had his first start this season. Meier was out with a match ban, Matmour stayed on the bech this time.

The opening 15 minutes were pretty even with the Eagles mostly in possession of the ball, still little chances were created. Benny Köhler had a go after 14 minutes but his long range shot was wide. FSV's Shinaz had an attempt also and Nikolov responded with a good save (16'), then Djakpa crossed in from the left, his deflected pass ended up with Rode who converted from close range - 1-0 to Eintracht (17')!!!

The match picked up speed now, only a minute after Rode's opener FSV had a great chance but Gueye missed the goal (18'). Eintracht's Lehmann then had a shot from long range but his try went wide (22'). Köhler tried it with a header from a Djakpa cross but his shot was deflected to a corner (24'). Huber of FSV had a try but it was not on target (30').

A minute later Gekas was through on goal and FSV goalkeeper Klandt brought him down in the box with a foul - penalty! The Greek himself stepped up and converted from the spot to score his first league goal of the season - 2-0 to Eintracht (31'). Eintracht dominated the match now, also benefitting from the comfortable lead.
With five minutes to go until the break a throw in of Djakpa came to Köhler via Lehmann and Korkmaz. The long term Eintracht midfielder scored with a right footed shot from just outside the box, his second goal of the season (40'). It was the first time that Eintracht was three goals clear at half time since May 2008.

The second half started similar to the first, the match was even with no major happenings. The crowd of 50,250 - the majority pro Eintracht - celebrated the derby and the lead. Köhler crossed in after a fast break but FSV defender Teixeira controlled the ball before Gekas came to it (52'). Gueye had a go on the other side but his attempt went wide (55').

Both defenders Djakpa and Jung had a good match on either side, Köhler and Rode were greatly involved in the offensive build up, Schwegler played calmly and with vision and Gekas kept working hard up front despite being caught offside a few times. After 64 minutes Matmour came on for Korkmaz.

The 'hosts' of FSV had the next chance when N'Diaye hit a Teixeira cross directly over the bar of Nikolov's goal (68'). Schwegler let loose a minute later but his attempt was saved by FSV keeper Klandt (69'). Eintracht's dominance also showed in an attack after 74 minutes when Matmour dribbled past various defenders before crossing back to Lehmann whose volley was blocked, the ball came to Rode but Klandt was at the end of his mix between cross and shot. Dominik Schmidt then had his debut for Eintracht when he replaced Rode (76'), he took over the part as the right defender and Jung moved towards the right midfield.

But it was FSV who nearly scored when Chrisantus' shot from close range went just wide (78'). Eintracht had a few chances on the counter attack but Gekas and Köhler did not find a way to set the final pass. All in all it seemed that FSV did not find a way to come back and the Eagles also took out some pace compared to the first half. Erwin Hoffer came on for Theofanis Gekas (88') and with his first move he assisted Benny Köhler who scored the fourth for SGE from close range (89').

It was a well deserved away win in home match surroundings, Eintracht showed a focused and determined performance, they scored four goals just like 49 years ago in the last league meeting. Coming up is the match at home against SC Paderborn on 28th of August at 13.30h CET.
