Kamada stars in 14-0 rout

Japan, Serbia, Portugal and Morocco all emerged victorious, while Germany’s Under-21s qualified for the U21 EURO quarter-finals.

Kamada on target in goal fest

Daichi Kamada helped Japan to a remarkable World Cup qualifying win on Tuesday. The Eintracht midfielder scored his team’s third goal (26’) in an eventual 14-0 victory against Mongolia before being taken off in the 64th minute.

Schubert and U21s edge into quarters

A goalless draw against Romania in Budapest was enough for Markus Schubert and the Germany Under-21s to secure their place in the last eight of the U21 EURO. The Eagles goalkeeper was an unused substitute as Stefan Kuntz’s side qualified for the quarter-finals as Group A runners-up. The knockout stages are due to get under way at the end of May.

Kostic starts, Jovic on the bench

Filip Kostic and Luka Jovic helped Serbia claim a 2-1 victory over Azerbaijan in Baku, their second win in three World Cup qualifiers. Kostic was named in the starting line-up and lasted over an hour, while Jovic was brought on in the 75th minute.

Another start for Barkok

Aymen Barkok also featured from the start as Morocco beat Burundi 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday evening. The Atlas Lions had already secured their place at next year’s tournament.

Ali Akman, meanwhile, was left out of the matchday squad as Turkey’s Under-21s lost 1-0 to Serbia in a friendly in Alanya.
