Erik Durm signs with Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt have picked up Erik Durm on a free transfer from English club Huddersfield Town. The 2014 World Cup winner has agreed a contract that will keep him with the Eagles until 30 June 2023.

Pirmasens-born Durm made 28 appearances in the Premier League in the 2018/19 season along with two in cup competitions, but was unable to prevent the Terriers’ relegation from England’s top flight. Prior to that, the 27-year-old played for Borussia Dortmund from 2013 to 2017, going from a reserve team player in the third division to a DFB Cup winner. The full-back came on as a substitute for the final quarter of an hour in the 2017 final against Eintracht. However, the greatest success of Durm’s career came as part of the Germany team that won the World Cup in 2014. He has seven senior caps to his name to date.

Durm is regarded as a hard-running and versatile player who can play on either the left or right side of defence as well in more attacking roles. Indeed, he was used principally as a striker during his early years at Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund, before Jürgen Klopp gradually moved him further back.

“It's great that we have been able to secure the services of a seven-time German international and 2014 World Cup winner," Fredi Bobic said of the signing. "Erik Durm not only expands our options, but he is also a strong character and an outstanding team player. He’s played at the highest level nationally and internationally, and these experiences will be of great value for our team."
