At Eintracht since:
01.07.2015

Tough-tackling defensive lynchpin

As David When David Abraham joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2015, he had already experienced a fair amount in his career. During his time with FC Basel, for example, he won three Swiss league titles and two Swiss Cups between 2008 and 2012. He also featured regularly in the UEFA Champions League, testing himself against the likes of AS Roma, Manchester United and Benfica as well as Barcelona and Lionel Messi. The multiple Ballon d’Or winner is a former team-mate of Abraham’s, as the pair were part of the Argentina side that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005.

After a season at Spanish Primera Division side Getafe, the centre-back found his way to the Bundesliga, first joining Hoffenheim in January 2013 and then signing for SGE two and a half years later. The always-polite Abraham quickly established himself as the main man at the back for the Eagles. As well as his good positional play and strong tackling, the number 19 is also renowned for his pace, which allows him to snuff out potential threats before they become dangerous.

Over the last couple of seasons, Abraham has also taken on an increasingly important role as a unifying figure within the squad. The Argentinian, who speaks German, is always happy to offer advice and support to his Spanish-speaking team-mates. Moreover, he has developed into a real leader, which is why he’s been the club captain since the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

Abraham enjoys the trust and the standing he has at Eintracht, so it was no surprise that he extended his contract for the second time last December – this time until 2021. Five months later, he led out the team in the DFB Cup final in Berlin for the second year in a row and this time lifted the trophy after a 3-1 win against Bayern Munich.
