Just like the 2019/20 season, Eintracht begin the new campaign with a DFB Cup match at SV Waldhof Mannheim.

Now Oliver Glasner’s men are up against Waldhof again in the first round of the cup. “Anything can happen in the cup, so we have to be completely focused,” said Erik Durm. “Mannheim are in the third division and those teams can play. We saw that just a few weeks ago in the friendly against Wehen Wiesbaden. We’ll need to be on our guard.”

Eintracht’s summer signing Rafael Santos Borré could make his competitive debut for the Eagles in Mannheim on Sunday. The Colombian played for his new club for the first time in the last pre-season friendly against AS Saint-Étienne, scoring the second goal from the penalty spot in a 2-1 win. Teammate Martin Hinteregger had nothing but praise for the striker after the match: “For Rafael it was very important that he scored his first goal straight away. It’s important that we have a top striker up front.”

Rafael Santos Borré is set for his competitive debut as an Eagles player.

12,000 fans allowed A total of 12,000 spectators will be allowed in for Sunday afternoon’s match. “The atmosphere was great last time,” recalled Makoto Hasebe. “Mannheim were aggressive and very attacking in their play.” Eintracht’s objective is, of course, to progress to the second round with a disciplined performance.
