One day after the final matchday of the 2020/21 FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season on Sunday 6 June, a number of Eagles will be heading off to play for their respective countries. While most of the teams will be taking this final opportunity to play friendlies ahead of the World Cup qualifiers starting in September, Brazil will be warming up for the forthcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.
That Brazil squad includes Letícia Santos for the first time since the injury she suffered back in March 2020. The defender will be hoping to feature in her country’s two matches against Russia before their opening game of the Olympics, which pits them against China.
Germany and Austria facing high-quality opposition
Germany have two friendlies before the summer break and have called up four Eagles, namely Merle Frohms, Sophia Kleinherne, Laura Freigang and Sjoeke Nüsken. France and Chile will be their opponents, while Virginia Kirchberger, Barbara Dunst and Laura Feiersinger will be part of the Austria squad taking on Italy. Verena Aschauer is also on standby for the Austrians.
Pawollek denied Poland debut
Alexandra Johannsdottir is part of the Iceland squad, who play Republic of Ireland in a friendly, while Lara Prasnikar will link up with Slovenia for a friendly against Croatia.
SGE captain Tanja Pawollek had been called up to the senior Poland squad for the first time but after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in the final of the DFB Cup, she has been forced to pull out of the training camp in Spain.
