“It was a hard slog”

Head coach Oliver Glasner was proud of his side’s fighting spirit, while match-winner Goncalo Paciencia revealed his feelings. The post-match reaction.

Oliver Glasner: “You saw from the celebrations how relieved we are. It was a hard slog. We sometimes made it harder than necessary for ourselves. Today confirmed that we have a great group of lads. I’m pleased that two substitutes were involved in the decisive moment. Our first- and second-choice penalty takers were out there. Goncalo had a tough time last season and then he has the character to score that penalty, which shows personal and footballing quality. I’m delighted for Gonca and for everyone. I enjoy these moments hugely because these personal situations concern me.”

I always believed I would get my chance and I’m confident that I can always help the team.

Goncalo Paciencia

Goncalo Paciencia: “I always have belief in myself. I asked Jesper [Lindström] if he wanted to take it, and he said I could. We did well and deserved to win the match. The first win is hugely important, especially after a disappointing start to the season. This win gives us confidence and makes us happy. I always believed I would get my chance and I’m confident that I can always help the team.”

Timothy Chandler: “It was a very hard-fought match, which we deserved to win. I’m very proud of the team – it’s awesome that we did it. Our fight shone through. We had chances to score more goals. The important thing is that we threw ourselves into every tackle. Goncalo’s goal goes to show how important every player in our squad is.”
