RECENT MEETINGS

Eintracht won 2 of the last 3 Bundesliga meetings with Kaiserslautern drawing 1. In the first leg this season the Eagles managed a 3-0 away to FCK. Nikolov saved a Lakic penalty after 26 minutes to deny the hosts the opener. Gekas then scored twice and Meier added the third.

ALL TIME RECORD

It was the very first matchday of the very first Bundesliga season after its foundation when Eintracht hosted FCK, the game in August 1963 ended 1-1. Since then the Eagles and the ‘Red Devils’ have met 77 times altogether, with Eintracht being slightly on the up (W26-D26-L25). At home it is a different story altogether, Frankfurt won 50% of their 38 games hosting FCK.

THE CLASSIC

Who would not remember the last matchday of the 1998/99 season? It was a day for heroes in the making, and the Norwegian Jan-Aage Fjoertoft ended up booking his spot in Eintracht’s hall of fame. Frankfurt hosted Kaiserslautern on that sunny afternoon in May. While being deep in the relegation struggle and with FCK knocking on Champions league’s door the outlook of this fixture was grim. In the end the Eagles stayed in the topflight on goal difference, the deciding goal in a nail biting finish was scored in the 89th minute. Fjoertoft was through on goal and beat the Kaiserslautern keeper with a cheeky dummy to make it 5-1! It was the icing on the cake of a rollercoaster match with every single goal being ever so important.
