The Nordish Week Continues - St. Pauli Away Preview

Eintracht and FC St. Pauli have not met that often yet in competitive games, only 10 times in Bundesliga, four times in 2. Bundesliga and also once in the German cup. The Eagles won five of these 15 games (6 draws, 4 defeats).

The last Bundesliga meeting was 14 years ago (St. Pauli won 2-1 at home), and the very last meeting happened at the beginning of 2003 in 2. Bundesliga (also at St. Pauli, 1-1). Oka Nikolov was in goal for Eintracht, current St. Pauli manager Holger Stanislawski featured in their first team back then. In the first leg of that season at Waldstadion in Frankfurt he had produced an own goal which was the lead for Eintracht, they ended up winning 4-0.

Bundesliga standings show Eintracht ranked 9th and St. Pauli right behind them in spot 10. The Eagles are unbeaten in four games in a row gaining 10 points, only Bremen and Dortmund collected as many in that period. St. Pauli have won only one of four home games while Eintracht won three of their five away games – a good omen?

Three current Eintracht players had spells at FC St. Pauli (unfortunately all are missing the game due to injuries):

  • Eintracht captain Chris had 13 2. Bundesliga appearances (3 goals) for them in 2002/03 before joining Eintracht. He currently suffers back problems.
  • Long term injured Zlatan Baijramovic was there between 1998 and 2002 (68 games, 6 goals across BL & 2.BL).
  • Alex Meier who will be out for three to four weeks had 25 games (7 goals) for St. Pauli between 2001 and 2003 (both leagues also).

All three of them were team mates of current St. Pauli manager Stanislawski.
