Summary of the Events in June

Aivars from Latvia – already well-known to the long time Newsletter-readers – managed to be on television in his home country. They reported about him being an Eintracht-supporter.

Last week our new jersey was presented to the media. It’s a classic one with stripes in black and red. I really like it, just click here and order here.

The drawing of the first round in the German Cup is already done. We play on August 13th (7 p.m.) at Wilhelmshaven, a club in the north of Germany (4th league).

The friendly match against Chelsea on August 1st is definitely scheduled. Tickets are still available. Below, you can find Tim's decription how to order tickets! The match starts at 4:30 p.m..

The world-cup is over by now for all our players. Schwegler and Bellaid were substitutes in their teams who couldn’t qualify for the next round. Gekas played for Greece but they couldn’t prevail in the Argentina-group. Clark played for the US-team. They managed to qualify for the next round and were even better than England. But then they lost against Ghana in overtime. We would have wished our players more success but – on the other hand – are equally proud that they took part at all and didn’t become injured. They can now concentrate on the new season with Eintracht. More about our world-cup-players below in Schobberobber’s corner!

It looks like Altintop and Heller will stay with us although their contracts expire. Coach Skibbe is optimistic about that. But the new contracts aren’t signed yet.

Sebastian Rode should be a player for the defensive midfield although the newspapers write about attacking qualities as well. He grew up near Frankfurt and always thought about playing for Eintracht. Many other clubs (like Dortmund) were interested but he decided to stay in the region and join Eintracht Frankfurt. As his contract in Offenbach would have expired already in 2011, there was only a small transfer fee to pay: 300.000 Euros. Georgios Tzavellas is a left defender with offensive qualities as well and famous in Greece for his wings. We hope he will be able to adapt himself to the higher speed in the Bundesliga soon.

Joerg Berger who died last week at the age of 65 is one of the Eintracht-coaches with whom we shared the most emotional moments in the past. He was our coach twice. In 1989, he saved us from relegation (I was 9 years old and became a true supporter in theses days, although I really liked Eintracht already years before). In the following years, he led us into the UEFA-cup with players like Falkenmayer, Bein and Yeboah. The great man Berger became our coach again in 1999 and saved us once more from relegation with the sensational last-minute-5:1 in our last match against Kaiserslautern (goals by Chen Yang, Sobotzik, Schneider, Gebhardt and Fjortoft). One of the best Eintracht-moments ever! Thank you Joerg, we will miss you! More about Joerg Berger below in Schobberobber’s corner!

Our U 17-team became German champion last Saturday. It’s the first such title for us since 1991 which gives us hope for a good future with young “homegrown” players who lead us to success in Germany and Europe. One of the U17-players will already be part of the squad next season: Sonny Kittel, a seemingly very talented player.
