Eintracht’s longest-serving player is staying at the club and will move into an analysis role with the first team from next season.

Marco Russ is calling time on his 16-year professional career and ending it where it started, at Eintracht Frankfurt. The centre-back joined the Eintracht youth system in 1996 and made his senior debut on 22 October 2004, in a 2-1 defeat at Greuther Fürth. Since then he’s racked up 328 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, as well as 25 for Wolfsburg.

On Matchday 34 of the current campaign, the 34-year-old will be named in the squad for one last time. In over 22 years with the Hessian club, his highlight was undoubtedly winning the DFB Cup in 2018.

“Marco Russ has experienced a great deal in over 22 years for Eintracht Frankfurt and has also had to go through some difficult times. I respect what he’s achieved for this club,” said head coach Adi Hütter.

Russ is leaving with nothing but positive feelings: “It was an honour to become a professional at this club, to have spent such a long time here and to have been able to play in front of these special fans. At the same time, I’m looking forward to the new challenge at my beloved club.”
