Four Eagles were on international duty on Saturday, with the main focus of attention being on the match involving Frederik Rönnow, reserve goalkeeper for Denmark against Finland, when football unfortunately ended up taking a back seat.
In the first half, Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the pitch under no contact and had to be resuscitated. As the minutes dragged on, concerns grew not only in the stadium but around the world on social media as everyone desperately waited for positive news. Eriksen was taken to hospital where his condition was stabilised and he was able to communicate. Eintracht Frankfurt would like to take this opportunity to wish Christian all the very best and above all a speedy recovery!
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin struck the right tone after the match, saying: “Moments like these put everything in life into perspective.” It was the wish of both teams that after a delay of around two hours, the match should be finished, and Finland went on to win 1-0.
Earlier that afternoon, Djibril Sow and Steven Zuber’s Swiss team drew 1-1 with Wales, although neither Frankfurt player was involved.
Aymen Barkok was the only Eagles man to see action on Saturday when Morocco faced Burkina Faso in a friendly. The 23-year-old featured in the starting line-up and took his unbeaten run to eight matches since making his debut. Achraf Hakimi scored the only goal of the game in Morocco’s 1-0 win.
