Following the narrow and frustrating defeat after extra time in the DFB Cup final against VfL Wolfsburg last week, Eintracht were back on the pitch in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga on Matchday 22, taking on Bayern Munich away in their last game of the 2020/21 campaign.
The hosts were clinical with their first chances, with Linda Dallmann scoring twice (17’, 25’) early on. Niko Arnautis’ charges put in a committed performance as they sought a way back, but an own goal by Laura Störzel in the 54th minute effectively killed the game off. Lea Schüller rounded off the scoring for the more dominant home side in the 90th minute, the result putting the seal on Bayern’s fourth league title overall.
Head coach Niko Arnautis: "I don’t think the scoreline is a fair reflection of the game. I don’t think Bayern had a lot of chances and we have to be honest: we played 120 minutes last week and it showed today. We weren’t fit enough. I can’t criticise my team at all, the only thing I will say is that we could have done better on a couple of counter-attacks. But congratulations to Bayern for a great season and for winning the title.”
The Eagles, who finished sixth in the table in their first season wearing the Eintracht colours, now go into a well-deserved summer break.
