Eintracht Frankfurt Women claimed three important points in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga on Sunday, winning 2-0 at SGS Essen in their Matchday 5 encounter. In a hard-fought contest, Eintracht goalkeeper Merle Frohms prevented the visitors from falling behind with several superb saves before Laura Freigang headed the Eagles in front three minutes before the interval.
No way past magnificent Frohms
Frohms produced a fine goalkeeping performance in the second half too, with Essen’s Lena Ostermeier putting through her own net in the 78th minute to seal a hard-earned victory.
Merle Frohms: “I’m pleased that we’re heading home with three points today – deservedly so, overall – and that we kept a clean sheet. We didn’t have as many clear-cut goalscoring opportunities as usual but we finished them off clinically and were fortunate at the back, or rather we defended well. Lady Luck has to shine on us too from time to time.”
Eintracht play their first home game since Matchday 3 on Sunday 17 October, when they welcome league leaders FC Bayern Munich to the Stadion am Brentanobad.
