Having been given a bye in the DFB Cup first round, Eintracht Frankfurt Women had little trouble overcoming second-division side 1. FC Nürnberg 5-0 away from home in round two to clinch their place in the last 16.
After taking the lead in the 16th minute through Laura Freigang, the Eagles dominated the second half and doubled their advantage thanks to a thunderous Sandrine Mauron effort (55’). Alexandra Johannsdottir made it 3-0 three minutes later to all but end the tie as a contest, with Lara Prasnikar (66’) and Freigang (81’) adding gloss to the scoreline.
Head coach Niko Arnautis: “If you look at the game as a whole, you can say we deserved to win by that margin. We even had chances to score further goals. You could tell that the team are working well together, even though we made six changes to our starting line-up today. Winning 5-0 against a team in a good position in the women’s second division shouldn’t be taken for granted, which is why we’re happy and satisfied.”
The draw for the DFB Cup last 16 takes place at 18:00 CEST on Sunday 3 October.
