Idrissou: I do not feel any pressure!

Mohamadou Idrissou joined the Eagles in a last minute transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer. So far he featured in 9 games scoring 7 goals. He earned 40 caps for Cameroon (8 goals) over the course of his career. This interview was held ahead of the home match against Alemannia Aachen (matchday 15).

Mo, 5 goals in your first 3 matches for the Eagles meant a great start for you. How important was it to get into it right away?
I am happy as it is right now though I have to start scoring again. I had a good run which I am satisfied with. Also the team is great, we have good forwards and if one of us cannot play another one steps in and scores. We need to keep it that way until the end of the season.

Why did you agree to the move to Eintracht?
I had a good feeling about it and I have played here a few times before. Also I knew Sporting Director Bruno Hübner from our time at Wehen-Wiesbaden and he knows about what I am capable of. Also the manager Armin Veh showed that he believed in me. I am really happy about the move and hopefully we keep getting the results and play in the top division next season.

Looking at where Mönchengladbach are ranked in Bundesliga, do you regret it?
I am happy for Gladbach, I have lots of friends there and we keep in touch. But I am happy to be here and to start something new.

How big is the difference between Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2?
There is more tactical experience in the topflight and minor errors will be taken advantage of right away.

The Eintracht fans are special – do you get to feel that on the pitch?
Yes, that is pushing the team greatly and just for the atmosphere we have to play good. For example against Kaiserslautern in the cup they supported from minute one right until the end, unfortunately we lost.

Who is your room mate in the team hotel?
So far I am on my own in the hotel which is good, that way I have my peace and quiet and am able to pray.

Are you religious?
Yes, I am a Muslim.

You have a nine year old daughter, has she been to a match already?
No, not yet. Maybe for the match after which we get promoted.

What are your goals for this season?
To get promoted with Eintracht.

What do you do in your free time?
I like playing basketball best, but I have not found a court in Frankfurt yet. Other than that I like hanging out with friends, and I love sports.

Would it appeal to you to move to an international club?
Every player would like to do that but I am very happy where I am right now.

Who do you get on with best in the team?
Sebastian Jung, Alex Meier, Benny Köhler and Marcos Alvarez.

What was the best moment of your career?
My first promotion with MSV Duisburg, and my first hattrick against FC Nürnberg. It is always great to celebrate a win with the team.

How do you cope with the pressure on the team?
I do not feel any pressure. We do not need to talk about pressure, with promotion being our target. We need to free ourselves mentally to fulfill our goals.

Which teams are competing for promotion?
First of all Eintracht. Düsseldorf, Fürth and St. Pauli are up there too right now but for direct promotion it is only us really.

What was the most important point in your career so far?
At SC Freiburg, I felt really comfortable. And now in Frankfurt I feel also very good and I have a great team to work with. The manager believes in me and we have a quality squad.

Do you get to visit your home country Cameroon now and then?
Every half a year I visit my family in Maroua which is in the north of Cameroon.

When did you start playing football and when did you sign your first professional contract?
When I was eight years old I started in Maroua, and my first contract came in 1999 at FSV Frankfurt.

What would you like to do after your professional career as a footballer?
I would like to coach a youth team in Germany – that’s fun!
