“I’m sure it’ll be very loud”

Ahead of the season opener at Deutsche Bank Park, captain Tanja Pawollek and head coach Niko Arnautis speak about targets for the season and their excitement for what’s set to be a record crowd.

On the excitement for the season opener against Bayern Munich

Tanja Pawollek: “We’re all buzzing for this game, we’ve been working towards it all pre-season. Every one of us is looking forward to playing under the lights at this stadium. We’re expecting a big crowd, we’ll see just how loud it will be. But knowing our Eintracht fans, it’ll be very loud.”

Niko Arnautis: “The excitement and euphoria are great. We’re all expecting a really great game against a team who are among the best not just in Germany but also in Europe. Bayern are coming here with a new coach and a new playing system, they’ll be fired up. However, we showed last season that we’re capable of matching Bayern when we bring our qualities and style of play onto the pitch. We want to enjoy the game but at the same time we have to work hard, concentrate and be clinical and effective.”

We have the necessary quality in the squad to trouble the big teams.

On targets for the season

Pawollek: “We want to pick up from where we left off last season. Achieving third place and qualification for the Champions League is a goal that we should and can set. We have a great team, we have fun with each other but we also have the necessary quality in the squad to trouble the big teams. Personally I want to produce good performances, be there for the team and make the best of the season.”

Arnautis: “We want to achieve the maximum this season. For us, that means defending third place, even though the competition is going to be very hard. Irrespective of placings, we want to win over people, excite them on the pitch and continue to push women’s football forward. With this target, we’re in the right place at Eintracht Frankfurt.”
