Geyer: Have To Play Our Game!

Assistant Coach Reiner Geyer attended today’s press conference to answer the media’s question ahead of Sunday’s match away to Hansa Rostock. The 13th away match will kick off at 13.30h CET.

Mr Geyer, Rostock are at the bottom of the table, what kind of match do you expect?
It is not a good approach to evaluate an opponent according to his rank in the standings. We have respect for the match and the opponent. We will travel to Rostock to play our game and to continue what we showed in the second half against Cottbus. Rostock’s coach Wolf is an experienced manager who created a new atmosphere at the club and within the team. We have to be fully focused and play our game, in which case we are really strong.

What are the findings of last night’s test match [6-0 against Rot-Weiss Frankfurt]?
Initially the match was meant to give some of the players match experience, for example Mo Idrissou after his injury. There is quite a difference between a match in training and a proper test match against an opponent from the outside. You always gain knowledge about your team from these matches, Abu for instance was able to present himself. He made use of his chance and showed a decent performance.

Abu had his first appearance for the team, how is he doing?
As I said he left a good impression. He confirmed what we had seen when we observed him, he seemed agile and did well in one on ones, as if he had been with the team for much longer already.

Will Amedick return to the first team on Sunday?
We made a tactical change at the break against Cottbus, which is why we had to take him off. It was not to do with his performance, he had a good match and it was simply a change of the system. I cannot say how we will play on Sunday, we will wait for the upcoming training sessions.

Will Karim Matmour be available? How about the rest of the team?
Karim will not be able to play on Sunday. Sebastian Rode suffered a minor injury in the match yesterday but he will return to training tomorrow, as will Alex Meier. Ümit Korkmaz has a cold, all other players are fully fit.
