“Create something as a group”

In his first press conference as head coach, Oliver Glasner was joined by Markus Krösche to discuss their playing philosophy, the pre-season and their goals with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Markus Krösche on...

…the decision to appoint Glasner: “Oliver Glasner is a coach who is very well suited to us and our football philosophy. I’ve followed him over the recent years, even when he was at Linz. Oliver likes to play very attacking, bold and proactive football, and he helps his players to develop.”

…the transfer market: “It’s difficult to say how the transfer market will pan out. From my experience, things get going much later in years when there’s a European Championship, but I doubt the market will burst into life in the way it has done over recent years. A lot of clubs have large squads with contracts that were agreed before COVID.”

Oliver Glasner on...

…his decision to move to Eintracht: “Eintracht Frankfurt are a club with a great tradition and are a big name in German football. I had the privilege of playing in a full Frankfurt stadium with Wolfsburg before the pandemic and getting a taste of the impressive atmosphere here.”

…the squad: “Markus and I agree that the squad is very well set up, with a good mix of experienced and young players. Neither of us wants to change too much. We have a good foundation to build on. The team have performed very well in the past and I’m glad we have such a great and balanced squad.”

…his playing style: “Eintracht Frankfurt play in a way that is very attacking, intensive, creative and hard to deal with. We want to make the defence even more solid so that we keep things tight at the back a bit more often. We want to put the opposition under pressure early on and get forward quickly, and for that we’ll be asking for maximum commitment from the lads in training.”

Team spirit is very important to me. If you've got it, then it’s OK if you lose now and then – that’s football. If we play in the way we want to, we’ll pick up points.

…his targets with Eintracht: “The important thing is: how do we want to shape the future? That’s the most important for me on a personal level as well. I’m keen to create something as part of a group, to get stuck in and to play successful football. We want to give the players something, grow from that and be successful as a team. Team spirit is very important to me. If you've got it, then it’s OK if you lose now and then – that’s football. If we play in the way we want to, we’ll pick up points. When all the lads are back, we’ll discuss targets in more detail.”

…pre-season preparations: “We have the first training session on Thursday and then we have five and a half weeks until the first competitive match. We’ll use that time as best we can. It’s going to be an intense and exciting period. We’re getting started quickly and with high intensity. It’s important that we as staff get to know the players and vice versa, and that we develop a shared idea of football that we can take out onto the pitch from August. I’m looking forward to getting to know the boys, developing a playing philosophy with them and getting stuck into the analysis. It’s going to be pure football over the coming weeks!”

…tactical systems: “I’m not set on a back three or back four. I have to get to know the team and find out in which formation they work best and feel most comfortable. We want to be flexible and also adapt to the opposition.”
