Frankfurt impress

Sunday's 2. Bundesliga action saw Frankfurt put in an encouraging display against Braunschweig in the battle of the Eintrachts.

Eintracht Braunschweig 0-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt maintained their unbeaten start to the new 2. Bundesliga season with a deserved 1-0 victory over Braunschweig in the battle of the Eintrachts in Lower Saxony.

Armin Veh's side enjoyed the ideal start with the opening goal on three minutes, Benjamin Köhler striking low past Marjan Petkovic from the edge of the box following a nice one-two with Sebastian Rode. The title favourites continued to dominate thereafter, creating six further chances - the best of which Theofanis Gekas headed onto the bar - while the hosts were limited to a fierce Nico Zimmermann's drive which was nodded off the line by Gordon Schildenfeld.

Frankfurt in control

Braunschweig re-emerged courageously for the second half and showed an increased willingness to take risks, but Frankfurt remained in quiet control and duly doubled their lead on 83 minutes when Alex Meier dived to head home in acres of space from Karim Matmour's lofted cross. Barely over a minute later and it was three. Meier (85') was again the scorer, once more converting in space from a Matmour centre.

Frankfurt therefore move level with Fortuna Düsseldorf and fellow demotees St. Pauli at the top. Braunschweig's perfect start is ruined, but they remain a respectable seventh.
