“Late winner was thoroughly deserved”

Match-winner Djibril Sow, head coach Oliver Glasner and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp reflect on Eintracht’s last-gasp 2-1 win against Union Berlin.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “The late winner was thoroughly deserved when you look at the game as a whole. The emotions are obviously wonderful. We should really have led by two or three goals at half-time. Evan Ndicka’s header was incredible, just like Goncalo [Paciencia]’s strike against Antwerp. A lot of our players played key roles today and having covered 122 kilometres, we ran an awful lot after our game on Thursday. The lads put a great deal into the game and we’re getting a lot out of it at the moment.”

We deserved the win in the end, there’s no doubt about that.

Djibril Sow: “We made things unnecessarily tense today. We played an outstanding first half and should have led by a lot more. As it was, we were only 1-0 up, which is always dangerous in the Bundesliga. We started very well, didn’t let Union into the game and were clearly the better team. I’ve been waiting for this goal for over two years. The boys always tell me to do it like in training and that’s what I did today.”

Kevin Trapp: “We fought back after the equaliser. We did well against Antwerp and Freiburg too – all we need to do now is maintain those levels for the entire game. We deserved the win in the end, there’s no doubt about that.”
