“A big weight off our shoulders”

Three points, a clean sheet and hungry for more! The Eagles can look forward to the second half of the season with optimism after beating Augsburg on Saturday.

Head coach Adi Hütter: “It’s a big weight off our shoulders, having not always got the rub of the green in recent weeks. I decided against playing Daichi Kamada and opted for Amin Younes and Aymen Barkok. Amin needs match practice, particularly with so many games in January. Erik Durm has been through a hard time, but I’ve been impressed with how he’s fought his way back. We’re thankful to have been able to carry out our jobs since the outbreak of coronavirus. This victory brings an end to a good year for us, in sporting terms.”

Whether it was down to the orange shirt I don’t know, but I’ll wear it more often in future.

Kevin Trapp

Sporting director Bruno Hübner: “The three points are definitely important. We’ve particularly struggled away from home against Augsburg in the past, but today we earned ourselves an excellent win. Now it’s important to catch our breath over the Christmas period. To end the year in a positive manner was even more important.”

Kevin Trapp: “We’re all pleased and we’ve worked very hard. A win and a clean sheet to end the year will obviously do us good. I played in my orange goalkeeping kit for the first time today and also had a new pair of gloves – I told Jan Zimmerman they’ll be my clean-sheet gloves! I made a bet with the lads before the game: If we keep a clean sheet I’ll buy them three Xbox consoles. That’s how much it meant to me! Whether it was down to the orange shirt I don’t know, but I’ll wear it more often in future (laughs).”
