“We were too passive”

Markus Krösche, Oliver Glasner and Sebastian Rode analyse the match against Hoffenheim and the reasons why the team were unable to hold onto the lead.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “After trailing through the own goal, we did well and turned the game around. It wasn’t easy because Hoffenheim defended well, but we did it fairly well too. The equaliser was frustrating. After taking the lead we were too passive, which has happened often this season. That’s what ultimately cost us the win.”

We always fight our way back into it and put a lot of effort in, but in the end we couldn’t protect the lead.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “2-2 is a fair result. Both teams had very good goalkeepers, both had the chance for a late winner with Hrustic and Kramaric. I’m satisfied with the performance. The fans acknowledged that the team were determined to come back after unfortunately going behind and didn’t throw the game away. After we took the lead, something happened that has occurred several times this season: we became too passive, didn’t attack with as much intensity and didn’t look for the pass forward. That’s how TSG deservedly equalised.”

Sebastian Rode: “It was a decent Bundesliga match, where we were unfortunate to go behind and then fought back again. We always fight our way back into it and put a lot of effort in, but in the end we couldn’t protect the lead. For that reason we only managed a draw. The focus on Sunday will be regeneration, and then we have Monday off. On Tuesday it will be two days until the Europa League match, so we have sufficient time to analyse West Ham.”
