One home win in 2022
Only a victory will do for Oliver Glasner and his players when Eintracht welcome TSG Hoffenheim to Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday 23 April. It is a feat the Eagles have only achieved once on home soil since the turn of the year – against VfL Bochum (2-1) back in March. “We’ve picked up three points at home against the bottom six. You’re probably not going to win the league doing that,” said Glasner. “Football is that simple sometimes.”
Eintracht’s defeat at Union Berlin on Sunday saw them slip to 10th in the standings and leaves them eight points adrift of sixth place with only four games remaining. “I don’t know whether that ship has sailed yet, but we won’t be giving any games away,” added Glasner, whose side began preparations for the visit of Hoffenheim on Wednesday after taking two days off to recuperate from a hectic couple of months.
Personnel woes for visitors
Eighth-placed Hoffenheim are only two points shy of the guaranteed European spots, but they are winless in five and could be without several players for the trip to Frankfurt. Chris Richards and Stefan Posch were forced off with knocks against Greuther Fürth last time out, while Christoph Baumgartner and Pavel Kaderabek both picked up their fifth yellow cards of the campaign and must serve a one-match ban.
Despite their issues, there will be no excuses for either side when they lock horns in Saturday’s must-win clash.
