All to play for in Frankfurt

VfL Bochum 1848 and their new manager Heiko Herrlich will be looking to pull themselves away from the relegation zone on Sunday afternoon as they face Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank-Arena, a side whose story sofar this season has been riddled by inconsistency.

Michael Skibbe's side have beaten Werder Bremen and taken points from league leaders Hamburger SV so far this season, however that does not tell the whole story; results such as the disappointing 1-1 draw at home with struggling 1. FC Nürnberg, as well as the heavy 3-0 defeat inflicted upon
them by VfB Stuttgart, sides who occupy two of the bottom five positions in the Bundesliga. As a result, Eintracht find themselves where you would expect to find them with such unpredictable form; in 9th position, the exact middle of the pack.

A good omen?

VfL Bochum fans though would probably give anything to be in Eintracht's position, after another abject display last weekend saw them crash to a 4-1 home defeat against Werder Bremen, leaving them in the relegation zone in 17th position.

However, Bochum can be encouraged by the fact that their opponents on Sunday have only won one of their last six meetings against them, as well as by the fact that Eintracht have not kept a home clean sheet in the league so far in 2009, let alone this season.

One of the secrets to Bochum grabbing their first win since the end of September could be grabbing the all important first goal, and then holding the lead; so far this season, Bochum have let go of 11 points in the Bundesliga having been in the lead, more than any other side. Ironically, Frankfurt have so far this season not managed to turn a losing position into a win.

Injuries

Frankfurt will be without prolific Greek striker Amanatidis for the game due to an ankle injury with Christoph Preuß also absent due to an injury during training.

New Bochum boss Herrlich may have to do without an ever-increasing injury list, a list of which Kevin Vogt was added to following a knee injury in a youth team game this week. Philipp Bönig may have to sit out, as well as Mimoun Azaouagh who could also miss out due to his calf injury picked up against Werder.
