Pirmin Schwegler, who has been head of professional football at Eintracht Frankfurt since the start of this year, is joining VfL Wolfsburg with immediate effect. The Swiss is taking up the post as sporting director at the Bundesliga rivals.
Eintracht and Schwegler began the second chapter of their story together on 1 January 2025, after the 38-year-old spent five years as a player for the Eagles and also wore the captain’s armband. With over 400 senior appearances, Schwegler made a name for himself in the Bundesliga not only at Eintracht but also at Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen and Hannover. Now he’s returning to Lower Saxony to embark on a new challenge at Wolfsburg.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Pirmin Schwegler has done very good work in the last 12 months. We would’ve loved to continue on this journey together. His experience in football and his qualities recently attracted interest in Wolfsburg, where he has the opportunity to take on an exciting challenge. We don’t want to stand in Pirmin’s way and wish him all the best for the future.”
Pirmin Schwegler: “I’m very grateful to Eintracht for the opportunity that was opened to me at the start of the year. I’ve been able to gain a lot of valuable experience over the past months and have always felt very at home at the club. The decision to leave Eintracht is by no means an easy one for me. At the same time, the opportunity to take on a central role at an ambitious club is a very appealing prospect for me. I wish the team and the club nothing but the best for the future.”
